Tips to Stay Fit During the Christmas Season

We all know how hard it is to stay on track of your fitness goals over the Christmas holidays and countless Christmas parties and social events to attend! But with a little bit of planning – staying in shape over the festive season is a realistic and achievable goal!

  1. Don’t Skip Meals

Try to eat a light, healthy meal a few hours before any holiday event. Don’t “saving” all your calories for that one special splurge meal, it can often backfire. If you go most of the day without eating, you will be more likely to overeat and choose unhealthy options.

  1. Be Active

You should still perform your fitness routine whenever possible and if you can’t do that, simply walk more, park your car some distance away from your office, shopping mall entrance or just use the stairs!

  1. Get Plenty of Water

This can satisfy your appetite as well as keep you hydrated at all times. And it will also prevent a possible hangover if you overdo it with alcohol.

  1. Speaking of alcohol, Avoid “too much”

Alcohol is packed with useless calories and tend to cause you to over eat with things you would no normally eat. Dilute wine and spirits with ice and mineral water, order light beer, or try a water/sparkling water between regular drinks.

And have something to eat BEFORE you drink to slow the absorption of alcohol into your system.

  1. Be Aware of What You Eat and How Much

It is easy to overeat at Christmas events since there is usually a variety of foods. Eat slowly, the slower you eat the faster you will get full and not overeat. If you are not really hungry, avoid second helpings.

  1. Set Gym Time Goals

You should set realistic exercise objectives. Aim for a minimum of 2 days in the gym. If you plan on more and do not achieve it, you will only end up disappointed. If you do get to the gym more often then rock on!

And have something to eat BEFORE you drink to slow the absorption of alcohol into your system.

  1. Last but not least .. Enjoy Yourself!!

Also make sure to set realistic diet plans! Trying to restrain yourself totally from some foods will only make you eat more. Feel free to enjoy the treats that you really love, but not the whole plate.
